Hace sol

Okay, so along with this week's blogs, I will also be including the Amazon Día 1, 2, and 3 blogs.  So, along with Monday's, Tuesday's, and Wednesday's blog, make sure that you check out my weekend blogs, too!!  Trust me, they'll be more exciting than the actual weekday blogs, I'm sure.

Anyway, on to today (Monday)...

For the first time that I can think of, it was sunny and nice in the morning!  Usually the sun doesn't come out until the afternoon, but this morning truly felt like a fresh Spring morning.  I took the micro to school and read some of my Spanish book for Ethnography, which is going pretty slow, but still going. :)  Once at the university, I had Peruvian Social Reality.  In that class, we discussed a little about the discrimination against people that speak Quechua or other indigenous languages.  Our professor described the shame of speaking Quechua that some people have.  He described it by saying that people who can speak Quechua only speak it at night, but as soon as the sun rises, they are speaking Quechua again.  Then, we talked a little about Maria Elena Moyano, whom was a politcal figure in Villa el Salvador (the district where Deporte y Vida is) and she was killed by members of the Shining Path (the terrorist group that I told you about when I visited el Museo de la Nación).  And then, somehow we switched to talking about Sarita Colonia, who is was a young girl in Perú, who became known as an informal saint who can make miracles happen.

After Peruvian Social Reality, a big group of us ate lunch and just relaxed in the sun until our Spanish class.  It was so nice out today, however, it did cool off pretty quickly in the afternoon.  Spanish class went by pretty quickly.  Usually we write short essays on Wednesday, but we didn't write one last Wedsnesday, so today we spent the whole period writing our essays, so it was simple.  After this class, I had Ethnography.  Today, we discussed more famous Ethnographers and then he talked about the different universities that started their own Amazonian Ethnography programs in Perú, which was más o menos interesting to hear about.  Usually class on Mondays is three hours because we're still making up for the other missed classes, but we finish the section that our professor wanted to so we got out after about two hours and fifteen minutes so it was great.  Tonisha and I then took the micro to Plaza Vea because we wanted to pick up a few things and we tried looking into getting tickets for the Aerosmith concert that is coming up, but they weren't selling them there, so we'll have to check at another store.

When I got home, there were new cabinets in the kitchen.  Ever since I got here the apartment has been changing like crazy!  When I got here, the balcony was getting a roof, then my host mom's room was expanded and re-done.  All the doors are still gone and being painted.  Now there are new cabinets in the kitchen and my host mom mentioned that sometime soon the whole apartment is being repainted.  It's crazy!  Anyway, again make sure you check out my Amazon blogs!  They are pretty exciting.

Also, one last thing...  I know I've mentioned the all guys soccer team I was on in High school and what a big part of my life it was/is.  I love supporting them and this past weekend they won their Regionals.  Well, our local radio station FM95 has a weekly competition called Hometown Heroes.  Every week, three area High school sports teams are nominated for Hometown Heroes and this week the soccer team has been nominated.  The team that wins receives a plaque, t-shirts, and the chance to win a thousand dollars for the athletic department at the end of the season, so it's a pretty exciting thing.  I would love it if you would do me a favor and go to this site http://www.fm95online.com/hth.html and vote for Monmouth Roseville Titans Boys Soccer Team.  The voting ends at 6 p.m. on Wednesday and you can vote online everyday.  I'll remind you again to do it tomorrow!  Thanks for you're help.  I know that the guys really appreciate it!

Buenas noches y dulces sueños!!
