At school, we celebrated Carnaval with the students. Carnaval is a popular celebration in Spain as well as many other countries, the most known is probably the one in Brazil. It is a celebration right before the Lent to celebrate before fasting. So, it's like Mardi Gras, too. It's just one big party to indulge in everything bad before the Lenten season. We will get to discussing the actual party later but as for celebrating Carnaval in the school, it pretty much means that the students get to dress up and we (the teachers) got to dress up, too. The beginning of the day was normal. We had normal classes, but in the afternoon, the students got to dress up in their costumes. All of the parents came and there was a promenade where every grade showed off their costumes to the whole school and then they sang and danced for the parents. Every grade had their different theme. The 3-year-olds were little dwarfs/elves, the 4-year-olds were characters from The Wizard of Oz, the kindergarteners were characters from Alice in Wonderland, 1st graders from Peter Pan, 2nd graders were mice (their teachers were cats), and the 3rd graders were superheroes. All of the costumes were so creative and only made out of trash bags, paper, streamers, etc. My two favorite costumes had to be the Tin Man costume and the Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum costumes..so adorable. Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures of those costumes, but here is a picture of Julia and I as Tinkerbell (Campanilla) and Peter Pan.

At the school following the Carnaval festivities |
School actually ended a little early on Thursday because of the Carnaval activities, so I went to my lessons earlier and got home earlier. The rest of the night, I spent relaxing and packing for the weekend because Stephanie and I left on a bus at 11:59 p.m. to go to Cádiz for Carnaval and boy, were we not the only ones. There were at least three buses total (or more) leaving at the same time we did for Cádiz and I am sure that everyone was going their for Carnaval. So, stayed tuned for those blogs and pictures. Hope you all have a great week! I am safely back in Madrid and will be back at school tomorrow.
